* PORCELAIN BUTTON WORKSHOP   2 sessions (3 hours each) – £49 (includes firing, clay and colour)

Learn how to make porcelain buttons to use on your textile projects, knitwear or fabrics.  Individualise your work with your own unique buttons. Beginning with button-making on the first morning you will be shown how to make, texture, and add colour to your work in the clay body, if you wish.  When you have mastered the techniques for button-making, in the second session you move on to add colours in the form of oxides, stains and gloss.  You will be shown how to finish your work and it will then be left to dry.  Once dry, your work will be once-fired to a high temperature over a three day period, and will be ready for collection within a fortnight. Alternatively it can be forwarded to you at a cost of £3.50 for postage and packaging.  Stunning results can be achieved using this beautiful material known for its whiteness, translucency, and very fine surface finish.

*Lunch is available from Roots cafe, opposite my Studio once the sessions are finished.

Explore texture through porcelain‘

A class which considers the many beautiful characteristics of porcelain clay.  Learn how to make 2D and 3D pieces exploring texture using fabric, paper, tools, stamps and organic materials (e.g. grasses, flowers).

To familiarise yourself with the clay you will begin by learning how to apply texture to 2D surfaces to create coasters and  a plaque.  As you become more familiar with the clay and techniques you will begin to produce 3D forms and as the day progresses you will be given further techniques and guidance to produce even finer, textured pieces which can be used as a tea-light or simply just as a beautiful form which allows natural and artificial light to pass through.
